12 MONTHS OF SENSORY DOUGH

12 Months of Sensory Dough

We are very excited to be part of the 12 Months of Sensory Dough this year.  We have been exploring some of the series on our favourite KBN blogs and we were thrilled to be invited to take part this year!  The host of this 12 month event, Lemon Lime Adventures, has a great page explaining more about the 12 Months of Sensory Dough as well as linking back to the previous 12 months too.

What will happen over the next 12 months?

Each month there is a new theme and sensory dough to explore.  We will be joining other KBN bloggers to share our ‘sensory’ dough activity with all our readers!

If you are a fan of pinterest then please pop along to the group’s Sensory Dough Board for more inspiration on how to introduce sensory play doughs to your children.

Witty Hoots is looking forward to sharing some great dough recipes, dough activities and we have a musical spin that will complement and enhance the whole sensory experience.  Music is such a wonderful medium that it can be ‘felt’ through the whole body which is great for introducing music to children who may have hearing problems or who are deaf.  Identified by the National Deaf Children’s Society (NDCS) listening to music, and partaking in musical activities, has some wonderful benefits for your child’s development.  Listening to and creating music can be fully inclusive for both hearing and non hearing children, helping them to create friendships and increase their confidence.

As with hearing young people, participating in music activities can have many benefits for deaf children and young people. As well as the vibrations, the visual aspect and performance value to playing, music can help children increase their confidence, encourage learning about emotions and help develop fine motor skills.  (NDCS – How to make music activities accessible for deaf children and young people)

We will build this series up over the coming months to become a valuable resource and sensory exploration tool.  Follow some simple sensory dough recipes to create your own dough and discover a whole new world that is great fun but will also develop children’s basic skills in manual dexterity through dough manipulation and play.
