Make a Cool Hairband from Buttons
Peakles loves buttons and loves hairbands, so what better craft activity for this month’s Project Recycle and Create that a hairband made from buttons? Peakles seems to have lots and lots of hairbands, a collection that is ever growing and I must admit she seems to co-ordinate them with her outfits too! We wanted to make something a little different for her to wear with some summer dresses this year. So here are our Cool Button Hairbands which are easy to make and look great too!

How We Made Our Cool Hairbands
We made a variety of different hairbands with our button collection and had great fun making different ones too!
Just Stick The Buttons On
This is the most simple way of decorating your hairband. Peakles put crafting sticky dots (you could use dabs of glue) on the underside of the buttons and then stuck them onto the hairband. At first, she created a pretty and random button design but then began thinking about the different colours and size of the buttons. She made a repeating pattern of light and dark buttons and thought about leaving gaps between the buttons too.
Using A Thread Full of Buttons
Peakles threaded some cotton thread through some of the buttons until she had a length of button filled thread. We then secured the thread onto the underside of the hairband before winding the threaded buttons around the hairband. We made sure that there were no buttons on the underside of the hairband and then secured it with some glue.
Add Cardboard Button Flowers
We drew some circles on some cardboard which Peakles then cut out with scissors. She then covered the cardboard circles in glue and added buttons to make some flower shapes before covering the rest of the glue with some glitter. Once the flowers were dry, she attached one of the flowers to the side of the hairband with some sticky backed hook and eye tape. Mix and match the flowers and hairbands to create different looks!
