Ever read a book and been inspired to make something? Want to make something with the kids that is simple and easy to make? Or are you having a Christmas party and are in need of some decorations that can be made and hung up in minutes? Then our Icicle Bunting could be just what you are looking for!
Here Comes Jack Frost is a delightful tale about a young child who has no friends to play with during the Winter. He finds there is one person who is his friend – Jack Frost! They have many adventures during the cold weather until the magic is broken by the first signs of Spring!
We loved the beautiful illustrations that are reminiscent of paper cutting which is a simple craft using very few materials. As we have a few rooms to decorate during the holiday season we decided to make some simple icicle bunting inspired by the paper cutting illustrations in the book!
Materials Needed and Equipment
white paper scissors sticky tape or tack (for sticking the bunting up)
silver or patterned paper glue glitter sticky jewels
How To Make Icicle Bunting
You will be making paper bunting in the same method you would make a string of paper dolls. Cut your paper into long strips that are between 9 cms (3 1/2 inches) to 12cms (5 inches) in height. Next fold the paper as if you were making a paper fan and then draw an icicle shape on the top of the folded paper. Cut out the shape but take care not to cut all the way to the top. Carefully unfold your icicle bunting. You should have two strips of icicles from each folded strip!
You can either decorate you bunting with glue, glitter or sticky jewels to make it sparkly or use silver paper to make your bunting for an extra icy effect! Join your icicle bunting together to make a huge garland or try alternating between large icicles and small ones. We hung ours up around our conservatory windows to create a really frosty effect.
We hope you enjoy reading Here Comes Jack Frost and that you also love making these decorations as much as we did!
