Innovative Ways to Use Digital Technology
Festival Friends & Hairy Beards
I attended the Start Up Competition of the Thinking Digital Conference in May 2015. I was interested to find out more about the latest digital technology that these new companies had to offer. The last thing I expected to write about was about beards and festivals! In fact there was a whole range of different start up companies that pitched their ideas at the Start Up Competition on Tuesday 19th May.
With a three minute time limit the candidates pitched to the judging panel and the audience about their product or service. From easy ways to make payments to a new platform for creative people and everything in between. Each competitor spoke with passion about why they were there and what they hoped to achieve with their product or service. Once the three minutes were up they then faced business and technical questions from the judging panel.
Finally the judging panel retired to chose one finalist. The audience were also allowed to select a finalist as well through on-line voting via the app or in person to a member of the Thinking Digital Conference staff. It was very difficult to chose a single start up company as they were all interesting ideas!
After some light refreshments we all returned to our seats to find out the results:
Bristlr – a site to connect people who like beards or who have beards!
Skignz – an app that allowed you to use the pictures seen through your phone to track friends at festivals, find refreshments and to even your own tent! Signs in the Sky!
I thoroughly enjoyed being part of the process and could not wait to find out who the overall winner was!
The Winner of the Start Up Competition!
Finally on the following afternoon the winner of the competition was announced! You can watch the final pitches and the results here via the livestream.
The winner was Skignz – Signs in the Sky! I could see a huge potential in this idea and I think the audience could too!
If you have a digital idea, a technological break through or something really simple but would make a big impact on the digital world then why not book mark the Thinking Digital Conference on your computer, follow them on twitter and make sure that you enter next year for Thinking Digital Conference 2016?
