Paper Mache Play and Models
Paper Mache is something that we haven’t used recently so Peakles and I decided to have some fun playing with it as well as making some models. Peakles was keen to help and we soon had a bowl full of Paper Mache just waiting for us to create some fantastic things!
Simple Paper Mache Recipe
This is a great simple paper mache paper recipe that takes about five minutes to make.
Newspaper torn into small pieces
3 cups of plain flour
4 cups of water
Large washing up bowl
Place the torn newspaper into the washing up bowl
Mix together the flour and water until you have a runny mixture
Add the flour and water mixture to the bowl of shredded newspaper
Mix together until the paper is soft and squidgy
Peakles enjoyed mixing the paper mache with her hands. She began to squash it and roll it about the washing up bowl. She thought it felt funny and soon began squeezing the paper though her fingers. As the newspaper began to break down it became more like a modelling dough and Peakles began to make different shapes with it.
She eventually decided to create a Queen and her family and gave then sparkly glitter crowns. The Queen needed a palace to live in a Peakles began moulding the paper mache around a cardboard drinks holder.
Finally she made a sparkling cat on top of an egg box which she then decorated with glitter and felt tip pen!
As you can see she had a wonderful time and we talked about doing this again soon. We think that we might try making some home made paper from our paper mache next time!
Peakles is excited to be part of the 60 Day Junk Play Challenge hosted by Best Toys 4 Toddlers. We are part of a group of different bloggers who will be sharing ideas over the next two months. We all have a huge variety of ideas, skills and thoughts on ways to play. Each of the 60 days has a junk material to focus on and each day one of us will be sharing our post about that material with the you and the rest of the world!
