How to Make a Giraffe Pencil Holder

Giraffe Pencil Holder

Celebrate World Giraffe Day with a Giraffe Pencil Holder!  These graceful and beautiful animals are easily recognised by most children. With their long patterned necks and cute faces, giraffes are firm favourites in our house!  What better way to celebrate our love of these gentle giants, than joining in with World Giraffe Day!  The Teen loves giraffes and Peakles decided to make a giraffe inspired present for him.  What better gift to give a student than a pencil holder to keep that desk nice and tidy!

Materials and Equipment You Will Need

  • scissors
  • yellow, white and brown paint
  • brown pencil
  • kitchen towel cardboard tube
  • jar or coffee lid
  • a small length of brown wool or thread
  • green paper
  • PVA glue
  • black pen

How to Make Your Giraffe Pencil Holder

First, take the cardboard tube and paint it yellow.  Once it is dry, dip your fingers into the brown paint and place all over the yellow tube as part of the giraffe pattern.

Next, cut the tube at an angle from the top to quarter way down the tube.  The larger part of the tube is now the body, draw on some legs and stick a length of wool on the lower part of the tube.  Take the other part of the cardboard tube and flatten it out.  Cut around it to make more of a head shape and add white dots of paint for eyes, once dry add a black pen pupil.  Glue the head to the body of the giraffe.

Glue some crumpled green paper to the lid and finally, glue your giraffe to the lid.  Once dry, put some pencils inside the giraffe!

We loved making this Giraffe Pencil Holder and we cannot wait to try out some of the other giraffe ideas for World Giraffe Day as well!
