How to Make a Useful Recycled Paper Scrapbook

Make a Useful Recycled Paper Scrapbook

We are delighted to be back this year celebrating Earth Month.  The theme for the series this year is upcycling and this fits in very well with our thrifty and ‘make it yourself’ ideas.

Last week we made our own Terrariums from some plastic bottles.  These were great fun to make and our plants are thriving!  This week’s recyclable material is scrap card and paper and we decided to be extra creative too!

So we made a Recycled Paper Scrapbook which has lots of potential uses including a doodle book, scrapbook, a diary or a cookery book!

How to Make Your Recycled Paper Scrapbook

You will need these simple tools and materials to make an A5 size book

  • a cardboard box or sheet
  • ruler
  • pencil
  • scissors
  • hole punch
  • scrap paper
  • PVA glue
  • string
  • tape

First, take the cardboard and mark out two same sized rectangles but make these larger than A5 size by 2cm (1 inch).  These will be the front and back covers for your book.  Cover the edges with tape and punch two holes through each cover in exactly the same place.  You can decorate your covers with scrap paper and PVA glue.

Next, take your scrap papers and cut to make pages that are A5 size.  Gather them together and using the hole punch make two holes down one side.

Finally, place the front and back cover on the top and the bottom of the pages.  Line up all the punched holes and then thread the string through each hole.  Tie off the string making sure that it is loose enough for the book to be opened.

You can even add or remove pages by untying the string!
