How to Make This Fun Golden Syrup Kids Playdough

Why Golden Syrup Playdough? Do you want to explore new and different playdoughs with the kids?  Are you bored with the playdoughs that are available in the shops?  Or do you find shop bought doughs just too expensive?

Peakles and I are delighted to be back as part of the 12 Months of Sensory Dough team for this year and we really liked this month’s dough!  The theme was edible or tasting dough, although the following recipe would be ok for youngsters to taste, I would not let Peakles eat a whole bowl of it!

Golden Syrup Playdough Recipe

Use these simple ingredients and instructions to create a wonderful playdough that Peakles thought was delicious and great to play with too!

  • 1 cup powdered milk
  • 1 cup icing (powdered) sugar
  • 2 teaspoons golden syrup (or honey)
  • 1 teaspoons vegetable oil
  • 2 tablespoons sparkling water

How to Make it

Add all the dry ingredients into a bowl and mix together.  Mix in the oil, water and the golden syrup until you have a dough.  Add more water if the mixture is too dry or if it is too sticky just add some more powdered milk.  Let your youngsters knead the dough to make it more pliable.

Playdough Play Time!

We set out some cupcake liners and some cookie cutters.  Peakles then began rolling and squashing the dough.  She made biscuits, cupcakes and rolled out long sausages which she made into ‘bread rolls’.  She then pretended to cook the dough and had a tea party for her teddies.  Peakles did have a sneaky taste or two of the dough and thought it tasted lovely!

Finally, we baked some of the mini biscuits and tried them with a glass of milk.  They tasted quite nice with a glass of milk but I wouldn’t recommend eating too many as they have a lot of sugar in them.

12 Months Sensory Dough

Peakles loves playing with playdough and never gets bored with all the different things that she can make with it!  We are looking forward to sharing more recipes with you over the next year.
